the 4400 Begins Tonight!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006The first few minutes of “The 4400″ shows us the disappearances of some significant characters:
Maia Rutledge, who disappeared in 1946 in California
Richard Tyler, who disappeared in 1951 in South Korea
Orson Baily, disappearing in 1979 in the state of Washington
Shawn Farrell, disappearing in 2001, also in Washington.
Then, the action switches to present day, where we meet Tom Baldwin, Diana Skouris, and Dennis Ryland, all of the Department of Homeland Security in Washington. It seems a comet is headed for earth-except that this comet changes course and, as it comes closer, slows down.
The comet, which now appears to be a giant ball of light, approaches Mt. Rainier. The ball of light dwindles and almost disappears-then there is an explosion of light. Out of the mist which is left in its wake come several thousand people-4400 to be exact-all of whom disappeared at some time within the past 60 years.
Dubbed “The 4400″ by the press, these people are moved to a quarantine facility by Homeland Security. While in quarantine, they are tested and questioned endlessly by government officials. None of the “returnees” remember anything-either about their disappearances or the time they’ve been gone.
Baldwin and Skouris are assigned to work together, as one of the teams who will be investigating what has happened to the returnees. Tom’s son, Kyle, was with his cousin Shawn on the night Shawn disappeared. Since that night, three years before, Kyle has been in a coma, for which doctors can find no cause. In that three years, Tom has devoted his life to finding Shawn and discovering what happened to Kyle that night. However, when Tom interviews him, Shawn is unable to give him any answers. Desperate for those answers, Tom does not fully believe that his nephew cannot remember anything about that night. (more…)
