Watching The 4400

Note: You know what happens when you’re hopped up on cold meds and spend most of the day sleeping? Yeah, you miss posting, or at least, dreamed that you posted but when you look through the logs, nothing’s there. Sorry about that.

Chad Faust, our own Kyle Baldwin, has been making the rounds when it comes to interviews, most recently over at Prime Time Pulse where he chatted with Matt Basilo about the fourth season, which just started airing in Canada on SPACE on September 26 and will air Wednesdays at 10pm ET/PT there.

MB: This season, we’ve also seen more about Kyle’s sense of loyalty, particularly towards his father and Jordan. What was it like jumping into the middle of the season’s major story arc?

CF: That was my favorite part of the season, that Kyle’s was in this classic struggle, a struggle between what he believes in as far as his outer world. His career, his ideology… between that and family. And I think that’s this classic thing to play. His contribution to the world, his grander scheme, his grail…or his family, his love, the people he cares about. It’s a struggle that I can personally relate to.

I felt this season the most connected I’ve been to Kyle, ever. I think in the past I kind of understood him, but I wasn’t necessarily going through that in my life. Whereas this year, this is stuff I’m going through.

He also says that he really has enjoyed where the fourth season has gone, as the Battle Over Promicin really isn’t a Good versus Bad, Black Hat versus White Hat struggle, which is how so many people can identify with the show and the story. It’s much more like real life than a lot of people expect a science fiction show to be, reflecting the current atmosphere of the world.

Chad talks about not only the fourth season of the 4400, but also the time leading up to this, and his recent work outside of the show, including his first leading man role in Descent with Rosario Dawson (Sin City) and that he’s currently shopping around four different screenplays, hoping to get some recognition outside of his impressive acting resume.

He also leaves us with a nugget about the possible renewal (or non-renewal) of the show by saying that we’ll just have to wait until sometime in October to hear from the network, as they don’t usually release that information until then.

I guess it all comes down to faith. When I was in prison, I didn’t have any. What was the point? I’d assassinated Jordan Collier, a 4400, a leader with a vision to make a difference in the world. And because of me, because of what the future did to me…he was gone. How do you live with yourself after you kill someone? For a long time, I didn’t bother trying. I didn’t care. I was ready to just rot in prison.

And then Jordan Collier returned. What is that if not a miracle? Before I knew it, I was released. I went to see Collier to ask for forgiveness. What he gave me was more than I could’ve imagined. He gave me purpose. He told me there was a role for me to play. And I wanted to believe him, more than I ever wanted to believe anything. I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. And it was pretty obvious how I could do that. Take Promicin.

Chad Faust was recently interviewed by Robert Taylor over at Comic Book Resources, to talk about the coming season of 4400 and also his role in the new movie, Descent, also starring Rosario Dawson (Sin City). The thing that stood out to me from reading through the interview was the fact that Chad says that they tried to get him to sign on for two more seasons of the 4400, but he talked them down to one, saying it might be “time to move on” after this season.

RT: Let’s talk “4400.” You are back as a regular again this season?

CF: Yeah, for this season. They wanted me to come back for two but I got it down to one. I think after this season it’ll be time to move onto something else. The show has evolved into something completely different this year. It’s now focused more on the cult and the bible of the show. The biblical theme of the messiah and the healer and now Kyle is becoming the shaman to the messiah and putting forth Jordan Collier’s message. My character is right at the heart of it and trying to push it forward. I’m now a born-again 4400, shamelessly and audaciously forming this force. It’s a whole new level of Kyle, almost a new character to play. I’ve got to play 13 versions of him; he’s always changing.

The 4400 Guide has been giving us sections of their extended interview with Chad Faust from their recent set visit, and in one they talked about the “coming Promicin War“, which just the phrase intrigues me. They asked Chad Faust, who plays Kyle Baldwin, in particular about the fact that the government has made it illegal to have taken promicin, which should definitely make things interesting in the coming season.

4400Guide: You mentioned getting turned in for promicin, so is that going to be illegal now?
CF: Yeah, if you get caught having taken promicin, or being in possession of it, you go to jail for life. With no trial. Of course, I’m all against that. One, because I have taken it. And two, because I think it’s a violation of human rights.

So, my question to y’all is, if given the chance, would you be one of those that would play Russian Roulette with your life by taking Promicin, with that 50/50 chance at dying?

Recently, Arieanna from the 4400 Guide got a chance to visit the set and sit down with Chad Faust, who plays Kyle Baldwin, interrupted abductee from the hit USA Networks show. She has posted a little tidbit in regards to her interview with Chad Faust.

Chad was very eager about his character and his acting and really trying to evolve his role. I loved his ambition. We had some great discussions about not just where the season is going, but also how it reflects on the world around us.
